Recipe for SOS

Mother’s preparation methods for SOS rendered it a horrible, and often sickening, mess.

  • 4½ oz. dried beef
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 tbs. butter
  • ¼ cup flour
  • Salt and pepper
  • 6 slices bread

  1. Melt butter in pan, add dried beef
  2. Cook 2-3 minutes to brown
  3. Add flour and mix with dried beef
  4. Add milk (reserve ¼ cup for later), salt & pepper
  5. Bring to boil
  6. Add remaining milk to thin to your desired likeness
  7. Serve over toast, biscuits or waffles
