While living on Henderson Street, my dad apparently missed his Taylorville pals. They consisted of his law school friend Dan and Dan’s assorted relatives and friends. None of these folks had children and I think my dad looked forward to joining the unencumbered life if only for a Saturday. He would take Lindy and me with him to Taylorville dropping us off on the little town square about 10AM. He gave us money which was supposed to take care of lunch and a movie. It didn’t matter what movie was showing; Lindy and I were headed to the show. Luckily we didn’t scare easily. We would walk around the square for a while and then stop for a burger basket. After consuming copious amounts of grease, we would head to the movie theater hoping for a double feature. At 4:30 or 5PM, Dad would show up and we would head home. We were 7 and 9 years old and we knew how to take care of ourselves all day. This was Far From Normal.
